Hamburger Helper

Forget the box—the homemade version of Hamburger Helper (specifically the “Cheeseburger Macaroni” style) is exponentially better. It uses real cheddar, doesn’t have that “powdered” aftertaste, and cooks in exactly the same amount of time in just one pot.

The secret is cooking the pasta directly in the milk and broth; the starch from the noodles thickens the sauce into a silky, velveeta-like coating.


The “Better Than The Box” Cheeseburger Mac

1. The Ingredients

  • The Meat: 1 lb Ground beef (80/20 or lean).

  • The Aromatics: 1 small onion (finely diced) and 2 cloves garlic (minced).

  • The Dry Spices:

    • 1 tbsp Chili powder.

    • 1 tsp Garlic powder and 1 tsp Onion powder.

    • 1 tsp Smoked paprika.
